I once again got onto the treacherous 192 again and made my way into Stockport and then on the 384 into Romiley. I have been fasting for the past few weeks so when we get our lunch break I go into Sainsburys and stare at the food because I can’t eat it yet and it provides encouragement as I can practically taste it. I have learned a lot so far on how to update websites on WordPress, make backups and use the 3D printer, I have also made a calendar using JavaScript, html and CSS.
During the first few weeks of working at Village Web Company, Claire has introduced me to many platforms including Mailchimp, SocialPilot and WordPress. We have used these to publish and manage content across our websites and social media platforms by scheduling posts and looking at analytics across these different sites. I have also been able to create content and produce campaigns for our social media pages and window display with the use of Canva. From this, we have been able to plan the content we want to publish and when, to maximise the use of our social media platforms, such as Facebook and Instagram. We have analysed our digital marketing metrics across all of Village Web Company’s social media platforms like Twitter, TikTok and YouTube to come up with strategies to make full use of these platforms. I have also had the responsibility of updating the window display at the front of the shop by removing and adding specific campaigns using PowerPoint.

Learning how to use 3DA has been a challenging, yet fun experience. To start off with, we have printed out small cubes to help us learn how the machine actually works, and what can go wrong.
So far we have created a small Lego action figure, and a small kitten as our more advanced shaped objects.
A roadblock we keep on facing is an error that occurs with 3DA that makes the extruder bump into the object, which causes the shape of the object to be ruined. You can see an example of this with the far right object on the image above.
I made my way through the treacherous Longsight and in the 192 to Stockport, upon arriving in Stockport I made my way to the 384 and got in and headed to Romiley, I really liked the area and the village web company was in a good place with many excellent shops near its vicinity, especially compared to Longsight. Despite only being here for one day, I have enjoyed my time here and will most likely continue to enjoy it even if its for 315 hours.
I had an amazing experience working at Claire’s workplace, where I gained valuable insights and progressed in my studies. My knowledge of WordPress, including updating plugins, themes, and creating websites, has significantly improved, thanks to Claire and The Manchester College City Campus for providing this opportunity. The skills I’ve acquired not only benefited my studies but also expanded my overall knowledge. I’m eager to continue learning and would love to visit Village Web Company to further enhance my skills if the opportunity arises.
Hi, Sahil here. Today is my 3rd and last day at Village Web Company and honestly I have had a wonderful experience learning about how Claire runs her business while at the same time, also does community service by helping elderly people with any issues regarding digital technology which they have less knowledge about. I have also learnt a lot about a web content management system (CMS) called WordPress and how to update plugins and themes, create blog posts and create websites using it. I also learnt a bit about html and css and made a very simple website that displays a portfolio about me. Overall, I’ve really enjoyed the experience of working in VWC and I look forward to working here again in the future or at places with similar aspirations.

VillageWeb is a very welcoming place. The first day I’ve come and I already learn pretty much everything about how WordPress works. I recommend this place if you are interested learning about how to maintain websites, learn about word press, learn how does a company manage their customers.

An Impact Report is designed to show how the work we do makes a difference to those we support. Village Web Company CIC has two main goals as a community interest company (CIC) which are to fight digital exclusion and increase diversity in the UK tech industry. My mission is to make sure that everyone is able to make the most of the internet, that includes: offering affordable websites to small businesses and start ups; providing inclusive work experience placements to students from local high schools and colleges and delivering free to attend activities and drop ins that help develop digital skills and confidence.
The United Kingdom has a huge digital divide and every time a public service has to be accessed online instead of in person or over the phone, there are people left behind and that is the main reason why I chose to become a social enterprise, instead of a traditional tech company.
If you’re interested in the work I’ve done so far, feel free to view the report below. (An accessible version of this report will be added shortly. Please let me know if you would like to be notified when this is available. )
