During the past few days I have created a few projects. These are:

  • Random word generator
  • Front page template
  • Login template

The random word generator works by clicking a button on the site which then gives u a random word out of a list.
The front and login templates are made with HTML CSS and javascript.

During my last week of placement I have created numerous demo sites which can be shown to clients.
These are all built by scratch without any frameworks such as bootstrap.

During this placement I have worked on a range of tasks.
One of them was a snake AI using Javascript HTML and CSS. This site has two types. One of them is a basic snake game with an AI. The first one is just a snake game, the AI is you playing against the AI in snake.

I also helped debug a client project.

Derron’s work experience 2

July 21st, 2023 by Derron

The experience of working here since the last blog post has been both similar and different in many ways. To start, there has been an increase in freedom as Claire has gotten to know us more, and vice versa. We have been working on individual programs and projects. During this week, we are joined by 2 students who are doing work placement here as well.

It has become a very familial work environment where everyone is genuinely friendly. While the work environment is great, there have been times when I had to work from home, and Claire has been very accommodating. The only issue is not transferring my data from one drive to another, which is my own fault. Even then, Claire has just given me a different task to accomplish.

The travel to and from work has been quite enjoyable. The view of the countryside from the train is always delightful, and even the surroundings of Romiley during breaks are a good way to decompress after an extensive coding task.

Taking on the project manager role of the group is helpful as I know everyone extensively and can play and plan to their strengths and weaknesses. However, this doesn’t mean I don’t take on my share of the coding projects. Usually, I assign and plan what’s going on with different forms of planning tools such as Monday, Google Drive, and Discord.

Heather’s Work Experience.

July 20th, 2023 by Heather

Hi, my name is Heather, I’ve been working at the Village Web Company CIC for 4 days as a Digital Marketing Assistant. During my work experience, I assisted in creating and scheduling social media posts for the company’s various platforms using Canva and Buffer. I also took an active role in generating new ideas and concepts for content that would drive engagement and promote brand awareness. Through this experience, I gained valuable insights into social media strategy, including the importance of consistency and engaging with the target audience. This opportunity provided me with practical skills that will benefit me in the future of social media and marketing positions. Overall, I have really enjoyed the experience, the given tasks have boosted my confidence in my abilities. I hope to undertake similar roles in the future.

I spent 4 days in July working at the Village Web Company. On the first day, I learnt some new programming concepts from another student and practised databases. On the second day, I learnt how to use WordPress and update other websites which I found very useful. On the 3rd day, I designed a wireframe and sitemap for a real website which was a new skill for me. Finally, I practised on a test WordPress website and picked up a lot of methods. Overall, I really enjoyed my time here as I learnt a lot of the basics of web development which I can build on further in the future.

Jake’s Work Placement Week 2

July 17th, 2023 by Jake

This is currently my second week of my placement at The Village Web Company. During this week, I have been working on a few different projects which I have quite enjoyed doing.

This weeks projects

During this week I had a few main projects that I had the opportunity to work on a few projects.

  • Help Desk Prototype
  • Village Web Company CRM Prototype System
  • Client Website

Client Website

During this project I was able to assist with making alterations to a client’s website this allowed me to have the ability to see how a project would work when a client asks for some modifications to an already built website.

Additionally during this project I was able to fix a few bugs which was affecting the website at the time. I did this by remaking an aspect of the website.

CRM Prototype

Within the office, we had a discussion about potentially turning some internal documents about clients to a digital version that would allow easier access to information for staff. After discussing this, we had a chat about potentially creating a solution that could help provide this for the company.

Currently I am working on a prototype which should be used to test if this is a feasible project and something that could benefit the company in the long term.

Additionally within the creation of this project, I have use the company branding to try and create a site that will match with the companies brand even though this would be an internal site that cannot be accessed by outside users.

In the next week, I am hoping to have some of the core functionality working as intended. After that I’m hoping that I will be able to make the website look better.

Help Desk Prototype

Since last week, I have created a few design documents and had a few discussions on the best ways we could develop this solution in a way that would provide the most value to the company.

During the start we was given a group project to work on, this was the Lorem Ipsum generator. This is a website which generates different lengths of lorem ipsum text to your liking. Furthermore, I have explored new tools such as WordPress which is good for building and editing sites.

Currently, I am practicing my JavaScript skills. I’ve done this by making a snake game with just HTML,CSS and JS. I’m also making an AI to play this game (using JS).

Jake’s Work Placement Week 1

June 27th, 2023 by Jake

I’m currently on my first week at the Village Web Company, during this week we have explored ways that we can help the company using our current knowledge whilst learning new skills and tools such as WordPress.

This weeks projects

Currently we have had the opportunity to work on a few projects since we are settling into the company for our first week.

  • Village Blog Post
  • Programming Free Web Challenge
  • Learn more about WordPress

During this, I decided to try and make a few additional things to see if I could make a few tools that could be useful for the company.

Bulk Image Optimizer

During a conversation within the office we discussed images in regard to how clients would provide images for websites, this lead the conversation down the path of how large images on the web can slow down a websites performance.

I decided I could make a bulk image optimizer which would allow you to optimize a large amounts of images at once using the command line.

This is an image of the Bulk Image Optimizer running in the command line.

Bootstrap Column System Recreation

During the first week of the placement, we discussed tools and frameworks that can be used within the front-end of a website to assist a developer with creating a website that looks professional.

After a while we was talking about recreating the column system which is used to space content out on a website, currently I’m working on making this.

Help Desk Prototype

During our first week we discussed about creating a help desk prototype which would be used to help organise support tickets, currently this would just be a prototype to see if this idea would be useful for the company.
